Meet Reno, NV, Dentist, Dr. Matt Vial
Dentist, Dr. Matt Vial
I was born and raised here in Reno and am so glad to be a part of the team here at Atencio Family Dentistry. Growing up, Mike was my family dentist and my little league coach, as I played baseball with his son. Mike was one of the people responsible for piquing my interest in dentistry at a young age. I didn’t have much dental treatment as a young person, but the fact that Mike always made me feel welcome when I came in has played a role in my eventual decision to become a dentist.
I attended Bishop Manogue High School, Gonzaga University and got my doctorate at UNLV School of Dental Medicine in 2018. I initially was studying engineering at Gonzaga, and quickly decided to make the change into the health science fields. At that time I was torn between medicine and dentistry, and after shadowing several doctors in both fields (including Mike) I decided dentistry was the right choice for me. Dentistry allows me to help and interact with people while maintaining a family and personal life.
I enjoy most parts of dentistry, but I especially enjoy the people and patients I get to meet. In fact, this is the biggest reason why I decided to stop studying engineering and pursue dentistry. I strive for perfection in all that I do and enjoy learning, which translates into my dentistry and career. I always give my patients my best, and like to stay on top of the cutting edge practices in the evolving field dentistry.
My now wife, Nicolette, and I went to dental school together and were married in our third year at UNLV. It was an easy decision for us to to return home to Northern Nevada after dental school to be closer to our families and begin our careers. Last year during the pandemic, we welcomed our son Dominic to the world. We also have two dogs, scout and gunner. As a family we try to enjoy the outdoors together as much as possible, we love to be near the water—at the pool or lake. I also enjoy hunting and we are hoping to get back to enjoying live music again.
